Hi. I just bought a new Airport Extreme (b/g/n). I also have an old Airport Express (b/g). I replaced my old Linksys b/g wireless router with the new Airport Extreme. I used to have 2 networks in my house, so I was looking forward to having 1. The Airport Extreme is connected to the internet through my cable modem (connected to the WAN port). I also have an ethernet hub that is connected to the router. This hub sends the internet signal to ethernet ports all around the house. The Airport Express is connected to one of these ports.
I want the Airport Express to extend the signal and share 2 printers. I have a USB Hub connected on one end to the Airport Express and on the other end to the 2 printers (I'll come back to this later).
I used the Airport Utility to bridge the network and created 1 network, hoping that the network would be boosted all around the house, and be fast. However, I noticed that the network is about 1/5 as fast as my old b/g network. I know that since I have a b/g Airport Express, the Airport Extreme has to run in b/g, but shouldn't the network be AT LEAST as fast as my old network?! I changed the channel in case of interference, and, even though I am standing next to the Airport Extreme, most pages (even google.com) load in about 10-30 seconds! I feel like I'm using a Blackberry!
Is there anything I should do to make the internet run faster? (IPv6 is off, I think, I can't really tell though, if anyone knows how I can be sure, please let me know).
I turned off the Airport Express and used the Airport Extreme in 5ghz n mode, and it worked great, a little faster than my old b/g network...But even with the Airport Express bridged, shouldn't the network be equal to my old network?
My last question has to do with my Airport Express sharing a printer. I connected a USB Hub to the Airport Express (does it have the capacity to do that?), and connected both printers to the Airport Express. Both printers are the same HP All-In-One C4180 model. I used to use only one of these wirelessly, connected directly to the Airport Express. Using the hub, only one of the printers is being "seen" by my Mac's print setup wizard. When I connect the OTHER printer directly, only THEN is it seen. Is the problem that Airport Expresses can only have 1 USB device connected at a time? Or is the problem that my printers are the same model?
Thanks a TON to anyone who responds, I really need to get this under control!!
