I decided to buy the new 2011 AirPort Extreme rather then the 2009 March or October refurbished model.

My student discount make the new one worth $30 or $10 more respectively then the new one.

Is the new model worth the paying the small difference? Anyone have experience with the new one being faster/better?

Thanks!

According to various benchmarks, new one has 30-100% longer range and 50-100% higher throughput. If AEBS will be used in a small place (e.g., studio or 1-bedroom), it may not make enough difference.

But for more typical usage, it's worth $30 (I couldn't decipher what you meant by "My student discount make the new one worth $30 or $10 more respectively then the new one.").

My bad. What is meant was this...

2011 AirPort Extreme with Edu discount is $159 CDN ($20 off)

2009 AirPort Extreme Refurb is $129 (released Oct) or $149 (released March)

I could have saved about $10-$30 with a refubished model. After reading what you wrote about the new model increased range, I think that the 2011 model was a better decision. :D

BTW, is throughput related to network speed or download speed?

I just purchased the reconditioned Airport Extreme Base Station last night. Too bad I didn't see this thread last night. :(

Oh well, I'm still expecting remarkable things from the AEBS.
