New Alu Macbook won't wake up

I picked up a new macbook last week and was wondering if anybody could give advice on a problem I am having. When I put it to sleep either by the menu or by closing the lid, when I reopen the lid the whole system freezes up and I need to power it down on the power key. I have had an imac for some time but this is my first apple notebook.

I know but it is not that easy in the UK. I live over 200 miles from an apple store. That said I will be in the US in business next week so I might do it in California if I have not take it back to where I bought it first!

Well the retailer has agreed to swap the unit for a new one however that leads to another question. I have installed iwork on the macbook from an iwork family pack that I have. Can I remove iwork from the macbook and free up one of the registrations or have I just burnt a registration?
