Last night, pre-orders opened up for the new Apple Watch Series 3, which has a 70 percent faster dual-core processor, new Apple W2 chip, a barometric altimeter, and LTE capabilities on supported models. The base Apple Watch Series 3 models without LTE are now $329 (38mm) and $359 (42mm), rising from there for Stainless Steel and Ceramic.

If you aren't interested in the speedier processor or cellular capabilities, B&H Photo has a sale going on right now that offers discounts on select models of last year's Apple Watch Series 2. In the lists below, Series 2 prices (bold) are compared to current prices of similar Series 3 collections on Apple.com.

For what it's worth, my Series 1 watch from way back in September 2015 is still more than enough for my spartan needs (telling time, message & calendar notifications, occasional map use). Unless direct cellular access is a deal-breaker, don't be up-sold on the new ones. Series 1 and Series 2 should remain great pieces of hardware.

My series 2 is perfectly fine, I'm not sure what you'd really use the extra speed for. I'm waiting for the complete redesign before I upgrade.

If anyone is interested, B&H Photo had the Series 2 discounted brand new at $500.00. Free shipping and no sales tax. Very reputable online retailer.

It's not worth the upgrade from a S2, but as someone who has no Apple Watch at all, I'd pay the extra for a S3. These discounts aren't that much at all.
I have an SS original, and I'm seriously considering the SS3... I wouldn't if I had a 2, but my SS1 just ran out of apple care. And it's had to be replaced 3 times already. I love my SS1, but I do think they have a tendency to fail. Hoping lessons learned, and that SS3 would be a sturdier build! (As well as the tons of extra yummy features)

I really want a SS version but as much as I love my apple watch series 2 I don't think I can justify $400+ just for stainless.

This. It's exactly how I feel about SS model. Waiting for SSS2 to get some decent price cut especially since it's officially discontinued and retailers would want to clear out the old models for Black Friday.

In defense of pricing, I was on the fence when I was getting the first generation watch.I still have it and feel that the extra $$ was worth it. The Sapphire crystal has been amazing as far as I have no scratches and I wear it everyday. The stainless has held up well. At this point, I always have my phone so will feel no need to upgrade at this time.As well as the watch has functioned, I think I wouldn't need to purchase until my watch will no longer be able to upgrade to the latest software.
IMHO, the watch just keeps getting better and I think the form factor is just right.

ive regret getting the apple watch.. everytime i wear it my left hand start to tingle & gets numb just for wearing it for 10min.. i love apple product.. the apple watch i like cuz its so fancy & compatible on my iphone 7 plus ios 11..
