New apple earbuds (shortchanged?)

I have three sets of earphones so I've been able to compare.

1- Apple stock earbuds (came with ipod touch 2g)
2- New apple earbuds with remote
3- Sony-MDR-ED21LP earbuds (good sonic quality and good non-canal ear fit)

The new earbuds (2) are great with the remote functionality but they

- are shorter by an inch that the stock earbuds
- seem much more sensitive to static discharge

Does anyone else notice this?

I had that "static" problem with mine, but I got them replaced at the apple store, and the new pair doesn't have that problem.

So wait, the new in ear headphones that were incompatible with the iPhone 3G are now compatible with 3.0?? That's amazing news!

On closer inspection, I noticed the earpadding was falling apart, after 30 days of light usage! They had to go back to the store!!

Anyway, I got them replaced today, no questions asked (I don't know whether that's a good thing or bad thing). We'll see how long these new pair last.
