The apple website hasn't updated their earpod compatibility since early 2013. I just bought a pair of new EarPods and it does not work with the iphone 4 running ios 6, but works on iphone 5 running ios 7. The old EarPods that came with the iphone 5 works with iphone 4.

Not working as in volume up down not working, play/pause button not working, and getting sound through many apps with problem. I never knew the same brand earphones would be so problematic.

Anybody having the same issues?

Must say I have no first hand knowledge of this issue, but I'd bet some money the issue is with dirt in the headphone's jack. I just can't imagine why Apple would change the spec on something as simple as earbuds.

Some iPods of the past would be "finicky" with some off brand earbuds, apparently the sizing would be so ever slightly off but that was enough to cause problems. This was years ago.
