With the launch of the new Apple Music Sing feature in iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and tvOS 16.2, Apple has released dozens of playlists aggregating songs that support the feature.

There are playlists for hits, party anthems, family favorites, crowd-pleasers, iconic duets and festive favorites, as well as playlists separated into genres like pop, dance, hip-hop, indie, rock, and more, plus playlists for music from different decades.

Apple has also added categories like "Songs for Pros," filled with challenging songs to sing, along with songs for beginners new to karaoke.

All of the playlists can be accessed in the Apple Music app on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Note that Apple Music Sing is available on the iPhone 11 and later, the fifth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and later, the third-generation 11-inch iPad Pro and later, the fourth-generation iPad Air and later, the sixth-generation iPad mini, the ninth-generation iPad and later, and the 2022 Apple TV 4K.

For odd reasons it's not available to the whole music catalog, seems like it's limited to English songs?
English or not, definitely not all of the songs, bummer.

I wonder if there’s licensing issues, like they can’t just mess with a song without permission.

Also I wanted to say despite what someone here on said in a reply to the initial story, the public GM does let you AirPlay mirror to an older Apple TV 4K + HomePods!

Did they fix the issue where this feature doesn’t work when you launch a song from a playlist?

Too bad you can’t turn the vocals all the way off and just listen to the instrumental. You can get so close, but not all the way.
That is exactly how I feel, haha! I love listening to instrumentals, and I buy CD singles just for those!

I’m not 100% sure, but I think it’s because they’re using the actual backing tracks with the vocals separate? If that’s the case, then they would essentially need to reorder/relicense these “Sing versions”, and they might be doing that in phases?

I’ll listen more closely to whatever else is on Sing, but I don’t think they’re using AI to separate vocals from whatever already exists in their catalog. Or it could be a mix of special “Sing versions” and existing tracks that just use AI to take vocals out.

On my end, I see J-Pop, K-Pop and anime playlists, and a bunch of other playlists of genres in other languages. Might be a region thing.

What is the user meant to use as a microphone when using Apple Music Sing on the Apple TV?

No I've seen a few songs in French. Even works with recorded live concerts.
I think the feature is still rolling out because the catalog was smaller last week.

Hey guys check out our cool new karaoke feature. Yes, we're releasing it in mid-December! Holiday songs?! No you don't need any of those.

If it is true that it is the neural engine that removes the voice then it does not explain why it is not available on the entire Apple Music catalog. There is probably processing work on the servers that prepare the audio track. The power of A13 or later is not enough for real-time work.

I was wondering this as well. How can apple music edit the files that an artist has submitted for streaming services. it would make sense however if an artist has opted in to allowing their music to have this feature.

Yeah it constitutes a major edit of the song and it wouldn’t surprise me if ascap or whoever has a whole karaoke carve out.

I’m surprised at what random albums I’m listening to for other reasons just have it ready to go.

Was looking up a Joe Strummer song from an HBO title sequence—check. Revisiting the new Earl Sweatshirt—check.
