New Apple Remote vs. Old Apple Remote

I need an Apple remote. On eBay, the old Apple remotes can literally be had for a dollar or two. On Apple.ca it's $20 plus shipping.

Is there any advantage to the new Apple remote (aluminium one)? I think the old one almost looks better and is also more functional (why separate the buttons?).

its all a matter of preference. I do like the white remote because of the location of the buttons.
