I guess they needed something with a black/aluminium design to match the hardware.

I think it's quite a nice cosmetic update, though I don't know why the play button couldn't have stayed in the middle.

I like it, I won't "upgrade" since my white remote is good. If my white one does, I'll upgrade.

I'll skip this one. The Remote app on my iPhone is far more useful for controlling my Apple TV and iTunes, and there's also the Keynote Remote app if I ever need to control a Keynote presentation.

It is a nice aesthetic update though.

That can't be it, or they would have updated the keyboard a la unibody Macbooks a long time ago. Either that or the product updates make no sense like usual.
