Apple today announced it will be opening a new store at the Touchwood Solihull shopping center in Solihull, a town near Birmingham in England.

Apple's existing store in the mall will be permanently closing on Thursday, July 24, at 6 p.m. local time, according to the company. The new store replacing it will hold its grand opening on Saturday, July 26 at 9 a.m. local time.

Apple first opened a store at Touchwood Solihull in 2007, so it has been serving customers there for nearly 18 years. The new store will have a modern design, with Apple now preferring to use engineered wood as its primary material of choice, rather than stainless steel. The new store is significantly larger than the current one, and it will likely be equipped with an Apple Pickup station for customers to collect online orders.

The new store will be located directly across the hall from Apple's existing location, in the Crescent Arcade section of the mall. Apple is taking over a unit previously occupied by Topshop, next to clothing retailer Superdry.

It has been a fairly busy year for Apple retail in the UK. Earlier this year, Apple opened a redesigned store at the Trafford Centre, near Manchester. And next month, Apple will be permanently closing its store in central Bristol.

Thanks, Filip Chudzinski!

Happy days are here again. The Apple stores are new and I’m here and I’m blue.
Anyways, it’s good to see that they’re opening a new store

We really do need more Apple Stores in the UK! Have to make do with a KRCS in Nottingham or take a road-trip to Sheffield's MeadowHell. Though, admittedly a 'road-trip' in the UK is not quite the same as in the US 🤣

Finally a bigger store there. It’s my closest store, about an hour drive from where I live. It’s tiny, and it’s incredibly noisy.

Would like to see some photos from the new store. Looks like Apple is closing down stores in locations where footfall is less and relocating to better areas.

The new store is about 10 ft from the old store. I imagine the footfall is the same.

And still no Apple store in Rep.of Ireland 😩

We can only imagine that there’s some obscure tax-related reason for this. Like if Apple actually had a physical store in Ireland, somehow they wouldn’t be able to funnel as much profits from other countries through Ireland? It just doesn’t make any sense otherwise.

It’s a really busy store but the old one was not much bigger than a shoebox. It’s great for those South of Birmingham as it saves you going into the city centre where traffic is notoriously bad.

More likely to get a deal from a reseller like KRCS. Having said that, our local reseller closed down but maybe Stormfront was not the best name for a company.

The original legal fiction was that the setup through which Apple funnelled its profits did not constitute a physical presence in Ireland for tax purposes. Having a retail presence would have scuppered that. Since the EU ruling, that may no longer be the case but Apple does not seem inclined to set up a retail business there. You would have to compare with the smallest country in which it does to see whether it is likely in the future.

Ah yeah, they were down Cornwall way right?

But yes, KRCS do often have small discounts on hardware compared to Apple direct. But to be honest, so do most resellers. Especially John Lewis and often Argos.

Close. Birmingham. But I reckon they probably shuttered a few others at the same time. I think they rebranded themselves to Select since.
