So, I have a Samsung 8000 series TV which supports HDR10 and not Dolby Vision. Should I expect to see an improved picture quality if I upgrade to the newest Apple TV 4K announced today? My current picture quality looks really good, I just never see an overlay or anything saying the HDR is active, so I'm guessing it's not with the 2021 Apple TV. This one doesn't support HDR10, is that correct?

Thanks!

About the only big streaming service supporting HDR10+ is Prime. But Prime seems to be moving to Dolby Vision.

One of my TV’s is also a Samsung 8000 series. It’s a 2016 4K SUHD TV: 49KS8000. So, the new Apple TV announced today has as a new feature the support for HDR10+. That’s not the same as HDR10. HDR10+ is more of an equivalent to Dolby Vision….much more advanced formats that HDR10….but HDR10+ is not as widely supported as Dolby Vision (ie Netflix does not support HDR10+…but Prime Video does). So, you won’t see any improvement unless you are watching HDR10+ content…and…your TV supports HDR10+.

I see that Samsung has a blurb on the link I’ll paste below that says this: “The 2020 Terrace, Sero, Frame, QLED, and UHD TVs support HDR10+. Plus all 2016 and newer Samsung UHD TVs have HDR10+ capabilities as well. Click here for a full list of HDR10+ Certified products.”. I searched their list of TV’s supported and did not see my particular model…even though it’s a 2016 SUHD TV. So, I’m not sure if mine is supported or not. You might want to check here. Link below:
