Just got an Apple TV and my favourite movie Predator is now in 4K and no horrible noise reduction which is great!

However, the sound is very, very low. I have to turn my Sony STR-DN1080 receiver up to 40 to get the same volume as everything else. What gives, I do not have sound compression on ATV or receiver?

Isn't that a common problem that dates back to DVD? I always remember my first DVD player at the end of 2000. I was horrified at how low the audio was - you literally had to have the TV at 90% volume. HiFi VHS video was the opposite - super full exciting sounding dynamic range :)

It's a shame as I watch travel blogs from YouTube and these home made videos absolutely shine in their audio with great dynamic range! (Most edited on MacBook Pro's in Final Cut Pro X :)

I must admit, coming from a radio background originally, I don't understand why audio on films is low - there's ZERO reason why it should be. Luckily most of the new films on iTunes sound great but there's still a few that come across as a muddled mess.

Worry not, as YOU MAY find that your Predator film gains Dolby Atmos in the autumn.

Mine seems a tad lower than the other films. Not overly so, probably need another notch or two/three up for comparable level on an action scene. Dolby monicker displayed in the amp, so not listening to PCM. Onkyo amp.

Could be in the meta data if dolby, when the tracks are authored and it is bad if reported by multiple users on a DVD, how that transfers streaming through the Apple system I know not.

Mention on another forum that it is an issue since it got 4K HDR treatment? Maybe it will get fixed.

Predator already is in 4K HDR.

I also purchase this title few days ago but haven't watch yet.

Tonight I try out see how the sound volume.

Yeah, it went HD to 4K for some months, then back to HD for a short while them popped back in at 4K and HDR, I think it was at the last amendment the issues are likely to have appeared?

The problem started in early 2000s! Most older music is level idiot sound was NOT a amplified to high modern levels! So all older movies are sound mix to Leveled natural sound!

Blade Runner is sublime. Ghostbusters is superb. Older films, sorted on the 4k rebuild.

Does not detract from this though, I just crank it up to 11.
