Apple‘s presentation of the new Apple TV went into some detail about how the device would make everything look better. However, the setup of a small black box in front of a large screen without any mention of audio looked, well a bit odd. A few weeks ago, the OG homepods would have sat either side of the AppleTV. I was expecting a follow-up announcement of new speakers or the mythical sound bar. I already own two OG HomePods that I’m happy enough with. But new customers?

As things stand Apple are marketing a product that aims to improve the tv experience by improving the picture quality without offering a solution for audio. Yes there’s Sonos, but looks like a significant strategic gap in Apples lineup to me.
