My wife just picked up anew ATV mode-1427.should I take it back for the new model 1469 or is there no difference.Would like to get it hooked-up ASAP,any thoughts ? Thanks

there is no difference, except for the look of the case

the new one uses a redesigned version of the same chip as the older version

This. There was a rumor that it would contain the A5X instead of the A5, but that turned out to be inaccurate. Just a new single core A5 is all.
 
There was initial confusion about the size of the casing which showed up smaller in the official filing. Turns out that it is the same size as the existing ATV3 base section and so no different - just that the top outer piece is larger to fit over the bottom piece.
