I found this story on SpyMac.com, interesting...

I have VERY interesting information relating to a future mobile technology Apple is currently working on. A small group of Apple employees have been working on a new wireless computing open standard connector to fit a new breed of 'modem' card. For which it is courting established companies within the cellphone industry to manufacture.

The 'cards' are basically mobile phones without the screen, battery, antenna or keyboard. The circuitry will reside on one PCB and housed in a 10mm X 10mm X 70mm casing. This new 'card' is designed to slot into a new recessed connector on future Apple portable devices, and act as a mobile 3G modem. Apple has had to work VERY closely with a particular large European cellphone manufacturer for this project, with which I have close contacts.

From what me and my colleagues can gather, Apple is not intending on bringing out a PDA nor mobile phone with a new 'micro' OS, but instead intends to continue shrinking their current line of portables running OSX, with a view that processors will eventually be efficient and powerful enough to run OSX on PDA size devices.

I was told that a small screen-less Mac was already on the drawing board (but long way from production), where the consumer is given a "choice" of next generation input/visual devices. For which Apple is said to have been looking toward companies such as Microvision and a (sorry to be so vague) "a scottish screen manufacturer".

There has been apparently much debate over what price the consumer is willing to pay for such a portable computing device, estimated retail to be higher than a top of the range Powerbook.

This new standard will play a vital role in the new vision, merging cell-phone, PDA and PC together, giving the Mac with OSX (or any other PC manufacturer) the ability to connect to third generation 'services' via the plugin card.

Apple could have the option to act as carrier with the natural expansion of it's .MAC services.
