Hello,

I bought my Macbook recently and now I have created a site to share my switching experiences.

I have tried to make this site especially useful for finding Windows software equivalents for Mac.

You can visit my site at this adress:

Windows 2 Mac OS X

Hope it helps to fellow switchers...

EDIT: the site's adress has been removed by admins, I didn't know it was against the rules. if you want the adress please pm me.

thanks for the comment.

I haven't used norton on mac, but it sounded as a good idea if you need a commercial package.

so why do you think it is not a good idea?

and can you suggest something else?

or is it completely unnecessary to have real time virus protection on mac?

thanks

Yeah, as of this moment in time there is no need. The only situation that it would be needed would be in a corporate setting with Macs and PC's where you would be unaware if the email or PDF contains a virus that may not show up on the Mac, Norton would recognize that virus and alert you before you send it off to the PC's.

Norton is quite notorious as being rubbish and has cause a lot of headaches for a lot of people.

Many people (including apple as it was bundle with 10.4 Server and probably 10.5) recommend ClamAV or ClamXAV

VLC - a video player that plays many different formats. I highly recommend this on Windows, too.

Flip4Mac - allows wmv files to play in Quicktime. No need for the now defunction Mac version of Windows Media Player.

NeoOffice - a port of OpenOffice; compatible with most Office file types.

For Mac laptops with motion sensor, I highly recommend (for fun):
MacSaber - light saber sounds as you swing your laptop around.

LiquidMac - simulates water in your screen; moves based on how you angle your laptop.
