new at burning help plz

i am semi new with macs. i ripped some movies of mine using a program called wonder-share i originally did it to watch them on my ipod. now i want burn what i ripped onto my computer onto dvds. i am not all that good with macs and all. someone had me try burn and it didn't work it took a LONG time and i followed directions and when it was done i put it on 3 diff dvd players and it said incorrect dvd or something else..it didn't work. can someone please help me with any suggestions with programs or with step by step on what i can do? thanks

What application did you use to burn it?

also when i did try burn it made a folder on my desktop when i open it it has two folders with audio ts and video ts. i am assuming it converted my mp4 version to that.....that also to a looong time to do if i stand correct
so then why doesnt it burn it right so i can play it in my dvd
