What the new ATV does not bring…

1. Rolled back 120hz support for now

2. The HQ lossless with ext DAC of course not possible

3. Watching DVision videos using Photos app only shows 1080p SDR

4. No 4K video support for videos in Photos

5. AirPlay from latest iPhone only handles 1080p SDR video.

So? What was the point of this other than a remote? We’ve been waiting for a long time to see our 4K videos. Not as long for Dolby Vision, but it’s same as usual in the ATV dept. DRAGGING their feet.

The new remote is nice.

Only reason I can think of for delaying is to have some bigger punching points for gaming on ATV at WWDC.

The GPU performance of the new A12 Apple TV 4K is also worse than the Old A10x Apple TV 4K.

Seems to me you were expecting a lot more than what Apple released. That is a bad case of false expectations.

HDMI 2.1 and support for Samsung's QLED little bit weird UHD. It drives my Samsung considerably better than the old AppleTV 4K, even though it doesn't have dolbyvision. I never do anything in your list other than airplay from my iphone, and 1080p has been okay for that, so I can't say that I miss them.

Honestly, as Samsung QLED is still just LED with a false marketing name (as QLED is something different and much better), HDR/DV Will never look really great on it anyways. Except if you are looking for bright only, as it Can get brigth than most other things. Better processing of the CPU is likely what makes it look better.

It's a little more than just plain LED in looks, but yes, it's not true QLED, nor does it compare with OLED at all.

I thought so too for a long time, but I was wrong, it really does look good.

There's something to be said for brighter, but for whatever reason, the new Apple TV makes this TV shine. (Once I set it to match content and chroma 4:4:4.)

True, still very very good TVs.

When QLED was originally introduced they were just sold as something, superior to OLED, that they were not. But they have clearly improved a lot over the years, while oled quality is only getting marginal better each year (but it is hard to improve on fantastic picture quality) and in some usecases/preferencer it is better than OLED. I personally love HDR on my Oled due to the dynamic range from all black to more than bright enough for me - but I am also the type who turn off all image-processing and dials down the colours to try and match the org film setting. So dont really enjoy stuff that pops just for the sake of popping. While Samsung (i believe) is very good at making colours pop and stand out, which a lot of people enjoy.

we all just have to buy the tv that is right for us.

Sorry, didnt mean to offend 😊

You didn't. I understood where you are coming from and I'll own an OLED TV eventually, just hard to justify right now. I do have a laptop with an OLED, so I know how much better they can be! I do like my colors to pop like you describe, but then again, that's probably what I watch that influences that choice. I was actually pretty surprised that the Apple TV made it look as good as it did, nothing else I have looks as good.

Apple never said to use a DAC with Apple TV for lossless, the DAC was for iOS/iPad devices.

I don’t remember hearing about it supporting 120Hz rates. Just because the hardware can support it, doesn’t mean anything. I recall Apple talking about 60Hz for sports and stuff, that’s it.

4K video playback was for iPhone 12 devices IIRC.

EDIT: I meant this reply for the OP, sorry Apple_Robert
