I'm excited to read all these updates on the Vision Pro from everyone getting it today. I pre-ordered a 256GB version to pick up tomorrow due to today being a busy day for me. I'm super excited.

I chose the 256GB model, since like may others, I really dont store much local files on my iphone and ipad. My 256gb iphone still has 140Gb or so free and my 512GB Ipad has around 400GB free so much of the 512 GB storage goes to waste. I can still download plenty of shows and movies for plane travel when needed and delete them when done with the 256gb.

I'm wondering if anyone can see how much usable space on the 256Gb models and if anyone has a chance to download a 3d movie from apple and see how much space a 3d vs a regular 2D 4K movie takes up. Trying my best to not have to go for a 512GB model if not needed. Thanks!

I saw on a review video (can’t remember which one, maybe Brian Tong?) that Avatar in 3D was something like 13-14 gigs
Ah ok, sweet. thanks! And that's a long movie as well. Should allow us to fit quite a few movies for download if needed if that's the file size. Most of the movies I'll watch likely will be 2D anyways so I dont think 256gb should be an issue.

Found it - 16 minutes in on this video:

Avatar: The Way of the Water is 13.43 gigs.
I hate how non-transparent Apple is with what you get with a video download. Presumably that’s 1080p, but is it Dolby Vision, 3D, Atmos Sound?

I’ve been noticing the same movie downloads with a larger size to my iPhone than my Mac / iPad, so I’m assuming my phone is getting HDR. But there’s no way for me to definitively tell, and I hate that I can’t just download the 4K HDR content that I paid for.

Avatar: The Way of Water is 24 GB on Disney+ which is surprising, Apple usually has the higher quality/size movie files.

Now that the Apple Vision Pro is out… for those of you who already have one what storage size would you recommend getting?

Do you actually download movies to the device or do you stream to it? Because I’m assuming movies would take up the most space. What about app size in general? Does anyone really need to get the larger of the two memory size choices? Or will most people be able to get away with 256 GB?

It really depends on what you want to use the device for. For example, if you’re traveling a lot, you probably want to have a lot of content loaded on the device so that you don’t have to have Internet access to watch it. In that case, you may want a larger storage size. for most people however, with light use and Internet access the 256 GB version is probably just fine.

If you decide to upload some of your already downloaded movies to an AVP how is this accomplished and are there limitations on file type that will play?

If you’re downloading using the Apple TV app, it works the same as an iPhone. You’re just downloading from the cloud to your VP. I haven’t tried a huge variety of files in the Files app, but I haven’t come across any that wouldn’t play on VP.

Thanks for the info,I have about 500gb of films on my Samsung device and windows laptop, wondering if there was an easy drag n drop way to get them onto the AVP?

I’m not the expert here so hoping someone will chime in. I believe this was discussed early on. I believe any solution requires some sort of cloud storage.

256 is more than enough as it stands now. Everything its good for can be done via streaming. I don’t store anything local or see any need to… this may change in the future as obviously we have no games but who knows at this point.
