When I buy my new PB12 and have it fresh out of the box, will the battery be charged... if not, does it mean that i have to charge the battery while the PB is switched off and not in use or can i use it while it charges for the first time?

it will be a painful painful wait if i have to wait, thats why this is such a concern :p

It'll likely have a small charge on it, every PowerBook I've bought has...

You can use it and charge at the same time... But first you need to calibrate your battery.

Basically charge it up until it tells you on the menu bar that it is fully charged, then pull the power cord out and use it until you get your first low battery warning, then plug it back in and fully recharge it....

Hey presto.... ready for the world of mobile computing.

It's all in your instruction book that comes with your PowerBook!
