Hi: I had an SE 2016 that I gave to a friend last year. She never tried using it til now, but she says it will not charge, as soon as she uplugs it it dies. When I gave it to her the battery (as I recall) was over 80%, although it was off for a year or more, but I'm pretty sure I charged it and it seemed fine when I gave it to her.

Now she tells me that they cannot (or will not) put a new battery in it. Is this true?

Who be "they"? Shop around. I know BatterisPlus lists battery replacement for this model at $50.
I wondered about that. I asked her earlier and she went to a mall Apple store, so not surprising. I also Googled the problem but didn't find much.

I checked your suggestion (after adding an "e") but apparently the nearest store to us is in Erie PA, we're near Rochester NY. :(

But there must be some independent (non-Apple) place in the Rochester area somewhere. I will continue to search.

I found a place in the Rochester burbs, not far from where my "friend" lives: Genius Repair.

Thanks for pushing me to dig further. :D

I tried to get a battery replaced at Apple for my 6 Plus last year. I'd bought it off eBay two weeks prior. Apple refused to replace the battery despite the genius first indicating that they could/would. But I guess the genius and I had a difference of opinion. Genius insisted it was the logicboard while I claimed it was the battery.

So, my arguments meant no sale of a new device/phone for him, which meant him not meeting his sales metrics and therefoe he had no further time for me. I walked out and got the battery replaced at uBreakiFix which is backed by Assurant.

Haven't had any issue since.

Two months later my son needed a new battery for his SE2 and I went there again. Again, no issues.

uBreakiFix gives you a one year warranty.
