Hey All,
This was bothering me for about a week since I couldn't seem to figure out what was causing it. Now I seem to have a vague idea of the cause (but not really).
Before Catalina when I would compose a new message I would press 'Command N' for a new message tab. Then I would type in the person's name to send a message. I would do this even if I had a conversation open with them prior, it was just a quicker way vs me having to scroll down through the message list to find their name (though I could search too).
What started happening in Catalina is it appears to not give me the persons number as an option to message if I have a prior convo open with them.
For example, if I texted John Appleseed a week ago and wanted to start a conversation with them today, if I press new message then John Appleseed's number will not be given to me as an option. If I didn't have a convo with John Appleseed open already, if I wanted to start a conversation with them then their number will now bee displayed in the dropdown.
My questions are, is this only happening for me? I haven't been able to find anyone else mention it online. And this is a bug right? I don't think they would have changed this, it seems unnecessary and just more of a nuisance than anything.
As I'm typing this I'm testing it again and now it seems to just be random on whose numbers work and whose don't so I really don't know if what I wrote above is the cause. Either way it wont let me message numbers who are clearly in my contacts list. If there's a person it wont let me text, and they text me, it shows their contact name, meaning MacOS knows that contact's number.
I've done all the troubleshooting steps I can think of; cleared the message database, signed out of imessage, restarted the computer, unsynced/synced contacts, signed out of the accounts my contacts come from and signed back in.
Thanks for any help.
