Hi,

I'm going to purchase my first Mac in the coming weeks (2011 2.2 i7 15" MBP), and was wondering if these two OWC kits were worth the investment. Other than the hi-res anti-glare option, I obviously plan on buying the stock model and upgrading the memory/hard drive myself!

One thing that wasn't entirely clear on the OWC website was whether the 12.5mm drive would fit into the early '11 MBP's. From what I've read here they do, but should I stand corrected? Thanks!

p.s. Western Digital Scorpio blue or Samsung Spinpoint?

There are 2 spots to install a hard drive to in the MBP - the main spot and the optical drive spot. The first fits 12.5mm drives, and the latter fits only 9.5mm drives (since it's under the keyboard).

If you're keeping the DVD burner and not going the dual-drive route, then you can use a 12.5mm drive.

That said, buy it from Newegg. An 8GB kit is $69 shipped. Also, consider the 2-platter Samsung 1TB drive that's coming out in the first week of July - it's much faster than the WD drive, and if you upgrade to an SSD+HDD setup, you can put the 1TB drive in the optical spot since it's 9.5mm.
