Had a Pioneer 4100NEX installed in my 1999 Miata. So far loving the CarPlay experience. Coming from the factory head unit and blown speakers, which were replaced with JL Audio C2-650 speakers, it feels like a different car.

Which Honda? I liked the 4100NEX so much in my Miata that I took my Honda CR-V in and had the same head unit put in. Trickier for sure, but they were able to keep the factory steering wheel controls, back up camera, amp, subwoofer and speakers.apologies if this is rude - would you mind providing an approximate cost for head unit, etc?
did you do the install? looks great.
I was looking into it for a Honda of mine and I ended up getting into a whole thing where I'd lose the stock sub, etc and that's beyond my level of understanding. wondering what someone would charge to wire it up and do all the heavy lifting.

If you have a reputable car audio specialist in your city, it may be worth checking out. They will likely try to oversell you; just be firm about what you really want. Their initial quote for my Miata was over-the-top; I ended up getting something for about 50% of their initial quote.Pilot.
Right now, yes. But wireless CarPlay systems will be coming out soon. And even on short trips, your phone will still connect via Bluetooth for music if you want it to. But my phone is always plugged in while in the car anyway, so for me it wasn't any change to my workflow.I am very interested in CarPlay but don't you have to connect your phone to the USB every single journey to be able to use it or have I misunderstood?

You should probably do some research on Pilot forums to see what others have done. That's who I knew which wiring harness to insist upon in order to remain all of my steering wheel controls.
Yes. It works exactly as one hopes it would. If in navi, you can click the home button and open music to browse or find something else. If you approach an upcoming turn, you'll get a drop-down banner and voice prompts. If you're in a call, you still get drop-down banners but with a chime instead. That looks great. It's as if that space was intended for that radio. It just looks natural there.
I am thinking about putting the 4200NEX into my Santa Fe.
I have a question for you about the use of the unit. Can you still listen to and control music while using the maps app for navigation? Can you change over to the music app without it dumping the navi? If you are in the music app and an upcoming navi alert or direction is due, will it pop up a message to alert you?

That definitely hasn't been my experience. For the most part, it is very responsive.I'm curious for those of you with the 4200nex, or even the 4100. Was there any lag with touch inputs? I recently bought and used and then returned a 4200nex because it was SLOW. I would touch it and count to 3 or 4 before anything happened. Changing the volume would be the same thing, press up or down and then 3 seconds later it would actually do something. Is this typical of a carplay unit or did I get a defective unit?

That's a clean setup, man. I would kill for CarPlay in my 1999 M3, but BMW decided to use a Single-DIN radio.![]()
Pioneer just release a single DIN NEX
