I have an iPhone 5, and earlier today I received a notification that there was a new carrier settings update for Verizon Wireless. I checked in my General settings, and the version of the carrier settings was updated to 18.1. Does anyone have any idea what this does? I'm still running iOS 8.1.2.

I got this for my 6+ too, didn't notice anything different either. This is what Verizon Wireless says:

Carrier settings updates are small files that are installed on iOS devices. The Carrier settings include updates to Access Point Names (APNs), MMS Settings, features such as tethering and default apps such as Stocks, Maps, and Weather. Having the most up to date Carrier Settings is recommended for the proper functionality of the device.

This is asked a lot lately.
You will not see or notice any changes.
Its just APNs and other parameters that make your phone communicate better with your carriers cell towers.
