Hi all,
I am considering getting a new blackbook core duo that is on clearance at a brick and mortar store here for $800 + tax. Is this a good deal? I was considering getting the core 2 on the refurb site but this just came along. What do you think?
Thanks,

You could, but keep in mind that Leopard and iLife '07 will be coming out soon, and it might be worth it to get a refurb when those things come out.

I actually go to school in Taiwan, where the prices tend to be about 20-30% more. I am home only for Febuary so if i get the new computer it has to be this month. I have been waiting for leopard an ilife '07 for a while holding off every time i see the c2d mb's and mbp's on the website. So the question still stands is this a good deal?

I sure think it is. I was just wondering if it would be worth it for you to wait for Leopard and iLife '07 to be preinstalled on a refurb mac, but since you're in a different country and pretty much have to get one this month, then I say go for the $800 Core Duo MacBook! It's pretty much everything the Core 2 Duo MacBook black has, only a slightly slower processor, but the Core Duo, I'm sure, is a great chip in that MacBook.

buy it and sell it on ebay...you can make enough money to pay the difference of a new one in a few months after the rev change

You all don't seemed concerned that that the notebook is a rev A. I thought they had lots of problems. Is that not true? Am i just thinking too much about this? Thanks, i appreciate your help.

they won't ever add Leopard to the refurbs if they didn't ship with it. they might up the C2D refurbs to it if they are selling them with it preloaded...

anyways. go for it. great deal on a great machine.

If the machine is refurbished then all of those issues would have been taken care of and fixed. In fact, in my experience refurbished Macs tend to have a lot less issues than the brand new ones. I'd go for it if I were you.

The Blackbook is new. It is on clearance at the school bookstore. I was comparing it to the refurb as another option.
