Seems like Apple might at least want to THINK about doing something like this...

i thought they did... years ago... called iBooks?
Yeah, and iMacs. But those were plastic. A PowerBook done in a series of really nice colors (say, Tarheel blue) would broaden the market.

Don't get me wrong, I love the plain aluminum cover... but variety is the spice of life.

I also like VAIO's If they came with OS X, Sony will get my money. Lets hope that tomorrow brings Powerbooks... PLEASE NOT iPOD RELATED!!!!

I really wonder about the business case for this. Companies have been going back and forth on offering this sort of feature for years now -- computers, cell phones, etc, etc, etc... They introduce the color options feature and then discontinue it. This pattern has been very consistent... how many major electronics devices can you think of that have existed, whether in incarnations or in single model, with multiple color incarnations for a substantial period of time? Which seems to suggest that the business case for it is greatly overblown, or at least uncertain. :(

Perhaps what Apple should do is take an aftermarket company like Colorware under its wing, in some sense? Find a way to inline sequence and sell colored Macs made by them through Apple channels, and have Apple cover the warranty? Although I guess the problem with this is that it makes the custom coloring seem really unappealing when it is priced out right next to the white or aluminum computers.

I like them all ... that's the problem with these colour things ... you can only choose one :(

Good thing it's running Windows, that means I don't have to worry about the colour choice.

The colors in your avatar would be a nice choice :) .

Yeah, the colored (anodized?) aluminum looks pretty good in that picture, but to me the colored computers have always fit Apple's consumer lines. I would doubt they would bring that to the pro line-up.

Sony makes some nice looking products, and these laptops are no exception, but no company has the pristine quality of design that Apple does.

damn, they are slick looking. Too bad they are Vaios. Some of the most over-rated hardware in my opinion. They do beat Apple's offerings hands down, and they go for way less money (base cost). Although, an 14" iBook can be upgraded to 100GB HD and 1GB Ram for the equivalent price ($1,599.00).

blech.... not in the market for a laptop anyway. Now let's talk about DSLRs.... =)

No!

I think a powder coated (wolfpack red or black) PB with a NCSU logo on it or the Wolfpack logo :D :D
