I guess if they really plan to completely remove the home button in future iphones, they all ready took care of one problem. ;)

Is it not physical still, but just different in design essentially?

the new home button is essentially not a button when the phone is turned off since there is a software element that makes it work. Kind of hard to enter DFU mode if one of the buttons required doesn't work if the phone is off.

Right, the press on it wouldn't register as there isn't anything to pick it up. I haven't quite read up too much on it or seen it in action really, but it still seems that it's a physical button essentially, just one that doesn't really work when the device isn't on.

I was wondering the same thing. I imagine Apple may make the hard reset combo power+ volume button.

Should work the same way with applying the right amount of pressure to the home button
Unfortunately that is not the case with 7/7+. When the phone turns off the stationary home button does not work so it won't be able to. Apple has redirected it. also refer post #17 of their thread

Are they positive about the timing on how to enter DFU? They say you hold power for 3, both buttons for 10, and then release the power. If you see the apple logo then it didn't work properly. In my experience, I would hold both buttons until the apple logo appeared then count to about 5 and release the power button until it went into what I thought was DFU mode. It always worked for me when downgrading software which I thought you had to be in DFU mode to do. Any insight?

The way I do it, hold both buttons until screen goes off, count to 3 and relese the power button. The screen will stay black and iTunes will detect your phone. Once iTunes detects I release the home button (or volume down as it will be now)
