alright, alright i know you all hate dells but its all i can afford for now. i was looking at this option right here and wanted to know if its a good deal.

Deminsion b110
2.53 ghz
1gb ram
dvd writer
160gb hd
19 in monitor

please no FLAMING! i would like your opinion on this

im sorry im forgot that, 490 including shipping and tax

The 19 inch monitor is probably analog and not DVI. If possible trade up to, I believe it is the 1907 model that is DVI, and you will have a monitor that you can use for a lot longer.

At my work, I have two of the Dell 1905's attached to a G5 tower and also to a Dell (GX620). Using the front panel switch on the LCD I can switch betwen which computer is displayed.

That's a 2.53GHz Celeron (albeit Celeron D). I would expect its performance to be somewhat similar to a 1.3GHz Core Duo (if such a beast existed), while being hot and inefficient. Otherwise it looks ok, but as G5Power said, that 19" monitor isn't particularly good. The cheapest core solo Mac Mini would be faster for most things.

Wow, they don't give you the option of choosing the FP monitors.

Remember too, the 19" has the same resolution as the 17". I wouldn't even bother with a 19" and save your $80 for something else.

Edit: how do you get it to be $490? I get $610 before tax and shipping for the specs you give here. Do you have a coupon?

You honestly think a 2.5GHz Celeron would keep up with ANY dual core chip, much less a Core Duo? It wouldn't even be close, the dual core would absolutely blow away the Celeron. Heck, even a 1.3GHz Pentium M single core would likely beat the 2.5 GHz Celeron handily.

At what task? I don't think you'd notice the difference for Web browsing or Word.

EDIT: I agree with plinden that the Core Solo mini would still be a better choice performance wise.

Funny, I thought that's what I said, if not with so much hyperbole.
Besides, it is dual core ... a dual core Celeron.
