New customer & Apple upgrade program

I can't get a straight answer from Apple and don't want to waste a trip

I'm not an existing customer of AT&T

Beyond the credit check fiasco, will I have any issues using the Apple upgrade program to become a new customer of AT&T

Any new customers to any carrier have any issues?
