I have been using my ACD 30" since 2007 and it's basically broken now. It has tons of issues with brightness buttons not working, the display going offline on its own and the only thing to do to fix it is cut the power down and then replug it. Also it has a lot of dark areas which are visible when looking at single tone images or watching movies. Also the USB ports are not working.

So I want to buy a new display and I have been checking the options. Dell has some new 30" display but it has gotten a lot of negative reviews. I have never used HP so I don't know if I want to go down that road. I can wait for Apple's new 27" Thunderbolt display which must be updated for TB2 and USB 3.0 soon.

But I was also thinking about 30" vs 27". It seems like 30" has become a niche product nowadays and most popular displays are 27". Are there big differences in panel quality between 27" and 30"? Does it make more sense to buy a 27" today and is 30" a dead technology now?
