I'm planning to replace/upgrade the stock hard drive in my 13" late 2007 Macbook. This is my first Mac (having switched from the PC world) and so I'm stuck with a very PCish question...do I clone my drove or reinstall everything???
With the PC, I would notice sluggish behavior every so often and would then perform a complete reinstall. This was standard operating procedure even without doing hard drive upgrades. I've noticed that, on the Mac, a few applications have been giving me errors and I've seen more spinning beach balls lately. Specifically, I used Photoshop CS3 for a while and then installed CS4 before uninstalling CS3. I now get an error message when launching CS3. Another program, Firefox 3, has been forgetting logins/passwords on occasion and I can get spinning beach balls when typing into the 'awesome bar' (or whatever they call it now). I have already repaired permissions without any correction of these problems. So, for those who have been on this side far longer than I and do not have the trappings of PCs in mind, what would your recommendations be?
In addition to the hard drive replacement, I am getting a USB enclosure for the old drive and have an external that runs Time Machine off the firewire 400 port. Also, I plan on upgrading the Ram from the current 2.5 gigs to 4 gigs.
Thanks in advance,
E
