New Drives in Old External Cases?

I want to replace some smaller drives in external hard drive cases with newer, larger drives.

I have several FW800 cases that are holding 3.5" SATA drives from 160 GB to 750 GB. What I'd like to do is replace them with 1.5 TB drives (to match the 1.5's) in my new MacPro Quad 2.66.

Other than voiding the warranties on those externals, is there a physical reason that this won't work?

make sure that the internal interface is the same aka that the new hdd have the same interface as the old (sta for instance)

If all your _new_ drives are going to be SATA drives, have you considered one of these:

Makes drive-swapping easy, and you won't have to mess with the old external cases.
