Great case, I have the ION 4 and the level of protection is pretty solid. I dropped my phone at just above waist height with no damages at all!

Yeah, I've never seen an Element case that looks like that -- a one piece bumper with no screws or polycarbonate insert. It isn't on their website either.

It's the old Vapor 4 case, now discontinued.

Yeah it's the vapor 4 case. I'm getting it used from a friend. It's a 2 piece case, the big part goes around the metal bands and the other part screws in (left side).

I've always wanted to ask. (excuse my ignorance)

What if you drop it with a metal bumper or case on? There isn't any padding right? Metal doesn't absorb shock well right? I don't get how it will help the device during a fall.
