i just got a new owc enclosure with a 1tb wd cavier assembled and plugged in via f800 and i'm getting the message: "Disk Insertion - the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"

what's the deal?

it's showing up in disk utility but no options (verify, repair, etc) available.

i've got a MBP 15" last model before the new ones.

OK - I assume he found an alternate method other than erasing the drive.
I guess I'm screwed then. OK, thanks.

Select the actual drive in Disk Utility - left column (not a partition under it)
Select the Erase tab
Select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

It won't even let me erase it. TechTool Pro found some files in the external so I know they're there, but I can't get anything out and Disk Utility won't even erase it. Toast.

Yes. Did that. I get an error (32) so it can't deal with something. It won't mount in Finder either. I can only see it in Disk Utility.

Ok, lets get all of the information in one place here
Correct me if I am wrong about something

You have an external HDD (how is it connected? FW? USB?)
You can see it in Disk Utility (in the left column?)
You cannot erase it with Disk Utility

Did you select the actual drive or a partition under the drive?
Did you select Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
Have you tried to Repair Disk from Disk Utility?

Any other relevant information you can share?
What type of drive?
What is the original format?

USB

YES

You cannot erase it with Disk Utility
NOPE

Did you select the actual drive or a partition under the drive?
ACTUAL (course now the partition under is MIA for some reason)

Did you select Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
YES

Have you tried to Repair Disk from Disk Utility?
YES - But it doesn't show in there right now but the 2 times it showed with an actual non-greyed button - I ran Repair Disk and it came up with Invalid Index Key (I think that's what it said). Fail.

Any other relevant information you can share?

ODDLY - twice in the last 2 days I got a message saying "external is being made available to you for a limited time" Something like that. I quickly tried to grab some vids off it and copy it back but my POS iMac froze so I had to reboot and now I lost the mount again.

Also - Tried TechTool Pro and Diskwarrior.

What type of drive? Acomdata that has a WD 500 in it. Forgot the name.

What is the original format? I thought it said HFS? I'm not sure. I can't see it in Disk Utility right now either. The light on it is rapidly flashing all kinds of crazy colors. No clue what it's doing.

Apple owes me a new iMac and I'm holding off till Fall in case new ones come up but boy is this thing on the edge of total death.
External won't show up on my Air either.

I think the "Invalid Index Key" error in Disk Utility might mean a very bad thing. Just frustrating cuz I know the files are all in there.
