I never noticed this before on the older laptops. Does this mean I can let the system running with the lid closed?

It isa really not running but closer to suspend while the LID is closed. On a rugular basis it will check for mail, updates and messages.

no, on cMBP computer sleep and display sleep are 2 separate sliders

looks like its just one now on the rMBP so you would tick that box if you don't want your computer to sleep with the display


there are 3rd party apps you can get to keep the MBP awake with the lid closed
