I was ready to order my son a new MBP from the refurb site then I started reading all the threads on freeze ups on new MBP.
.For the same price on Apples refurb site I can get either the 15 inch i5 2.4, 4g, 320g $1599 (canadian) or for the same price the 15 inch 2.66 Core 2 duo, 4g, 320g, with Nvidia geforce 9600M GT.
Which would be the better computer? He does a lot of work with imovie.
he is not a computer repairman so I want something reliable as he will be travelling with it and can't be running into the Apple store.
Thanks for any help.

the i5 2.4ghz is allot faster than the 2.66ghz c2d
faster processor and faster gpu.
you would be silly to not get the i5

I'm going into college in 2 weeks and I just bought myself at 15" i5 new 2010 macbook pro. It is a great machine. It's a base line, it's more than enough. I've tried imovie, it runs fine. I might upgrade the SSD since I don't have it in mine in the near future. I'm studying to be a digital art so SDD would be suitable for me. If your son does digital arts, movie, intense graphing etc then i would suggest getting the i5. i5 is more beneficial. :)

I have the 2.4 ghz 4gb intel core i5, 15" mbp. :)
