For those curious to see how the new Golden Brown leather color looks in comparison to the old Saddle Brown leather color…

Of note, my saddle brown leather wallet is about 6 months old but it was only used a couple times per week at most when going out; I never took it to work at the hospital and whenever I did take it out, it was generally well taken care of. I mention this because it might not appear to have much patina, which makes the new Golden Brown color more surprisingly brighter-looking.

I could be wrong but I’ve got the 13 leather case in golden brown and it seems like the grain is slightly different (more visible pores/different texture) so hopefully that translates to a more natural patina. The color itself is pretty close to a raw leather belt & a pair of leather boots I have that were both labeled ‘Cognac’ and they both aged beautifully.

…either that or it’ll start looking like butt soup in a few weeks & I’ll preorder a Bullstrap case, let’s see what happens!

You’re not alone. Picked up the Golden Brown 13 Pro case anyway in store last night, trusting that a few weeks usage will take the radiant orange colour down a few tones.
Thoughts so far? I dont see that much of a change yet...

I hate the new Golden Brown. I just bought the old MagSafe wallet without the “find my” feature just to have the Saddle Brown color. Not sure what Apple was thinking there.

Hate the new color and waiting for it to get darker. Somehow mine became also really sticky and feels dirty somewhat. Is there any way to clean this thing? Apple says use a slightly wet cloth, but that barely helped. Any thoughts?

I also bought the Golden Brown leather case expecting it to be like the Saddle Brown cases of old, but I'm really disappointed with it so far. It looks orange to me. I would've exchanged it right away if I hadn't been on a business trip, now I'm not sure if I want to spend another 65€ for an alternative. The Dark Cherry looks very nice, but I might consider using a third party case with better leather.

Would love to hear updates as time goes by to see if they begin to age well. Had the saddle brown for my seven years back and that thing aged beautifully! Hate the new color but will buy it if it ages well and gets darker.

I bought the saddle brown for my XS Max three years ago and it was as light as the golden brown being offered right now and I hated it but it darkened really nicely. I remember it getting sticky and looking dirty during the process so hopefully that’s just a sign that it will darken soon.

Apologies for the very late reply on this one - no, no real change yet. No emerging patina, no darkening. Still has a clean, bright orange/brown colour. May have overestimated the darkening that might occur after years of saddle brown leather cases.

Still quite happy with it, although I’d be happier if it started to lose the orange-ness a little.

Golden Brown doesn’t absorb oils and will not darken naturally. It will only patina where the literal orange paint they coat it with wears off. It will patina like Saddle Brown and CA Poppy from the 12s did, terribly.

Still happy with mine too. I'm still hopeful it will patina nicely to a darker color.

...soon

but if not. I've grown to love it. I only had to clean it once; got thermal paste on it but it cleaned really nicely with a little bit of Whoosh! LOL

I started last night tried the rubbing alcohol and virgin olive oil, going to do more today

Nice! Have you worked on the case also?
I watched a video last night where he used 400 grit sandpaper and coconut oil. Seemed to work well too.

Look forward to seeing your progress.

I tried the 400 grit and olive oil, looking a lot better using the 400 grit. I have a Nomad case which is darker to begin with.. but I might have to get the iPhone leather with how this is turning out
