got my new nvidia 285 yesterday
installed last evening.
confirmed 10.5.7 update

*upon boot mac pro crashes and does so each time booted

reset pram and smc memory
check for updates - none
re-installed 8800gt - boots fine
check operation in boot camp using alt upon boot - runs great
removed all HDD's and installed single new drive
loaded osx 10.5.0 from retail leopard disc
can load with 285 installed as there are no drivers on disc
installed ati x1900xt and performed load - fresh load with x1900xt works great
updated new load to 10.5.7
removed x1900xt and installed 285 - no display
called evga and they state that the card is defective
i responded "only defective in osx" he said humm... but did an rma anyway

anyone have any thoughts? would rather not return my brand new card if it's not the cards fault.

What version is your mac pro?

What year?

Im guessing since you have an X1900 that your mac is either 06 or 07. Then we can confirm that the card does not work on these models.

Did you extract the firmware and save the drivers so that others can get started on seeing if flashing PC cards will work...

If not, could you do so and post the files?

I say help people who are suffering problems and have happy people without issues deliver the ROM. There is no rush ;)

Did you install the Driver CD w/GTX_285Driver pkg, dated May 7th, 2009 - v1.5.44.7 (18.5.2f08)

Before you booted with the card?

I followed the instructions and the same thing happened to me. I put in my old 8800 card, installed the drivers from the CD, rebooted, shut down, swapped cards to the GTX 285, rebooted and it worked fine.

I don't remember seeing any steps mentioning installing the drivers before installing the card, but that is what you have to do.

sorry to be so late in replying to some of the questions but i actually had to work this afternoon. lol

in response to the "what cards does he have question" i have the original 7xxx, x1900xt, 8800gt, and this new gtx285

as far as the "what mac pro's do i have" i have the first mac pro quad 2.66, early 2008 2.8 Octo, and the early 2009 2.26 dual quad core.

did i extract the firmware question can be answered with a NO... just want it to work at the moment.

and to Cuda i would say that you are probably going to be the days winner with the question of "Did you install the Driver CD w/GTX_285Driver pkg, dated May 7th, 2009 - v1.5.44.7 (18.5.2f08)".

ok... i am five minutes from heading back to the house where i will install the driver and this whole mess will be over.
