just thought id share my findings and ask a couple of questions. showing myself up as a bit of a dunce but if someone could shed some light, thanks.

On original unibody 15" MBP, 2.53Ghz 9400m OSX 10.6.4,
have just upgraded flash player in safari to the latest version and as reported by Mac Rumors hardware decoding for streamed h264 video suddenly makes much less of a demand on the CPU, i assume that is what is happening.

BBC iPlayer HD 1280x720 h264

before update:
60% cpu usage at full screen
80% cpu usuage when viewed in a small window

i just wondered if anyone can explain the results after the update

15% at full screen
70% when viewed in a small window

when a video needs to be dramatically rescaled, is hardware decoding pretty much irrelevant? also, as my screen is not 1280x720, isnt rescaling going on anyway at "full screen" resolution?

also, BBC iPlayer uses flash player 10 and codec h264, i was under the impression that these were different things and apple were keen to steer away from flash towards something that is easily hardware decoded on their products like h264. if flash player uses h264 (in this case anyway) why can it not serve apples needs?
