Yesterday, I just bought a new hard disk intended to replace the original damaged hard disk in my mac pro. I inserted the new hard disk and powered up the macpro before holding "C" key to boot to the installation menu. After a couple seconds, the apple icon didn't appear as usual, but flashing a missing folder icon. I wonder what's up to the hard disk.

Or just reboot and this time do hold down the C key right after startup! The flashing folder only tells you that it is not a bootable OSX disk- but you knew that because you are trying to boot from an OSX installer disk to install it on the new drive.
