New Hard drive Causes Macbook Freezes?

Ever since I installed a 300GB hard drive in my old 13" Macbook, I have been experiencing daily system freezes. The screen freezes, cursor freezes, and I have to force a reboot. Sometimes two or three times. Once it warms up, it will work fine usually.

Could the hard drive be doing that???
I also purchased a nrew battery about the same time too....
