I just bought a 640 GB hard drive to replace the 120 GB drive in my 2.2 gHz MBP running 10.5. I want to do a fresh install on the new drive, so I put it in the enclosure and loaded 10.6 via USB with no problems.

Do you guys recommend using Migration Assistant to move everything from the old drive to the new, which at the moment, is still in the enclosure? Also, if I successfully do this and swap the drives, the computer should automatically recognize the new 640 GB, right? Or do I have to change some boot settings to accomplish this?

Migration Assistant won't do anything crazy like delete my old files from the source drive, will it?

Migration Assistant will work well for what you want to do.

It should recognise the new hard drive size, you may have to repair permissions etc after the initial boot up and Migration Assistant shouldn't do anything crazy, as far as Im concerned it just copies the files.
