New Hard drive for MDD (sata)

I have a 1.25 MDD I recently bought to use as a media server. It is a single g4 not the dual. I want to max out the hard drives. Later on I plan on buying a powermac so I want to use sata drives so I can just move em over. What do I need to buy to make this work. I have read maybe a sats controller? I do not know what this is. How many drives can I use? What's the max gb I can use. I am really new at g4's as I only ever used intel before I bought this. So far I really love it for the little money I paid for it. I plan on streaming movies, tv shows and music to the apple tv. I have hundreds of dvd's I want to start ripping.
