New Hard Drive Format Question

Hello, my WD Scorpio Blue 500gb is coming this week. Just a quick question before I put the bad boy in the MBP. Do I need to format the hard drive by placing it inside an external enclosure, or can I do that during Leopard installation? Also, is the first format option, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), the one to use?

I put in my new hd without formating, and used the instal disks to do that once the drive was installed. I used Mac OS Extended (journaled) and everything seems to be working right!
