New Hard Drive - No Startup Chime

I just installed a 120GB Hitachi Travelstar ATA drive in my wife's 1.2Ghz G4 iBook and when reassembled, there's nothing... no startup chime even. This is the second time this has happened - returned the first drive and got a new one and it's happening again. Last time, I put the old drive back in and no problems.

Can anyone help with what I might be doing wrong?

This may seem obvious but did you format it correctly and choose the right Map Scheme in Disk Utilities?

Maybe I'm Dumb

I assumed I'd be able to startup from my Leopard disk to install on the new drive.

Keep in mind, NOTHING happens when the power button is pushed.
