So my hard drive decided to pack in tonight. I have managed to find a 60gig drive to get it working again but now need to buy a new one. Wondered what people suggest getting?

I have a black Macbook 2.16Ghz with 2Gig Ram.

I thought this looked good:

Is 7200rpm and 16MB cache the way to go?

Thanks

Those are very nice drives for the laptop market. The only things to consider with 7200rpm vs 5400rpm is a mild increase in heat, and sometimes you may notice increased vibration in the palmrest area when the drive spins up.

If you plan on doing a lot of hard-drive intensive tasks, you may also see shortened battery life (not too bad, but noticeable)

Other than that, the WD laptop drives are quite nice.

That's the same hard drive that I have in my MacBook and it works great. Most of the vibration problems have been in the aluminum MacBooks probably because of the unibody construction. I don't feel that I have an excess heat or battery use problem. I feel that the computer is quite a bit snappier or quicker responding than with the 5400 8MB. I had an intermediate 120GB 7200 rpm before this 320GB because my MacBook came with a 60GB originally. -GDF
