If I ever have the intention of upgrading my hard drive (still using the OEM 160GB, it's too small nowadays!) how do I re-install Lion without installing Snow Leopard?

First look at the article collection Installing Lion: Our complete guide.

Buy and external (that plug's to your fastest port on your Mac) and use /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and format that external for Mac OS Extended. Then use something like the free Carbon Copy Cloner to backup your system before changing.

Note the special article How to make a bootable Lion install disc or drive.
Thanks!

I have a 500GB USB 2.0 external HDD (fastest port is USB 2.0 anyway) and what I have on my HDD is half of that anyway. :p
