Hey guys I've been thinking of going with the Momentus XT 500gb for my 15" MacBook Pro...I have read all the information about it and seems to be conflicting...some say SD24 is better than 23 and that SD25 is coming out soon...are there any other drives out there that would give me decent performance? I'm a fan of the Samsung drives for my desktop but haven't used them for a laptop yet...

I think I want to go with an HDD...the SSD's gb:money ratio is working out right now for me...

I tried the Seagate Momentus XT 500gb on my 15" late 2010 MacBook Pro. I didn't like it, way to noisey, vibrates like crazy, gets really bad when the mbp is on a hard surface. Anyways after a few weeks of usage the Seagate was replaced with a Hitachi Travelstar 7200rpm, IMO a much better hdd.

Running a 500GB Momentus XT.

Pleased as punch. Just as nippy as it is in my Mid-2010 Mac Mini and my friend's 2010 i7 MBP15, no vibration or noise issues -- just silent.

I'll move to SSD when 500GB-ish volumes move to around the $500-600 mark, but until then (10 to 12 months?), the Momentus XT is hard to argue if you want faster boot and app launches.

I went ahead and ordered the Momentus XT 500gb...should be here Friday and my MacBook Pro will be here Saturday! Already have the 8gb of G.Skill waiting...

I read somewhere that Seagate is working on fixing a few of the issues with the Momentus XT. I think the drive has a lot of promise if they can get some of the kinks worked out.

I have heard mixed reviews about the SeaGates. I ordered a Samsung 640GB 7200RPM drive that seems to get good reviews. Got it at Newegg for $80 I think a few days ago. Before that I had a Hitachi Travelstar 500Gb 7200rpm drive for a year or so w/o any problems.
