My original hdd failed just the other day so i picked up a HGST Travelstar 1TB 7200rpm and 32MB/MoCache. Im fairly new to this but I have removed my old hdd and replaced it with the new one. I booted up and held cmd+option+r for the internet recovery. I then went to disk utility to format my drive but it isn't recognized.
Does anyone have any idea if I could solve this on my own or should I bring it to apple? I don't think its because of the sata cable because even though my last hdd failed, it was still being recognized in finder.
I do have a 2011 mac mini, would it be possible to carbon copy clone the hdd on the mac mini to the new hdd via sata-usb? and if so would it work in the 2012 macbook pro? or would the problem of it not being recognized still occur?
I have also tried to just reinstall mountain lion, which is what my mbp shipped with but once again the hdd isn't recognized.
Thank you, Bert
